Queens Park Court raises £13,000 for British Lung Foundation

MP Karen Buck launched yesterday a fund-raising day in support of the British Lung Foundation at Queens Park Court in Harrow Road.

Mrs Buck said: “It’s incredibly important to support event like this and get people involved. These founds are aimed to help NHS system in supporting people who suffer of lung diseases. Furthermore it’s also an occasion to see how good people are and to develop a strong sense of community.”

Over £ 13,000 has been raised among sponsorships from local businesses and shops, and spontaneous donations from people living in the area.

The proceeds will be devoted to the British Lung Foundation, which is celebrating their 25th Anniversary activity this year, organising several events in the West End.

The event was organised by Mrs Maria Johnston, 67, member of the local Community Centre and supported by Citywest Homes and Queen’s Park Forum.

Among the numerous activities held, the most significant was the symbolic one-mile walk run by Mrs Johnston and other local people affected by lung problems.

Families with children invited to join the day in the local common garden responded with enthusiasm.
